2022 Baleno rendered ahead of launch: What it’ll look like

Maruti Suzuki will be launching the 2022 version of the Baleno by the end of February. A heavy facelift was important for the Baleno because the design started to show its age when compared to the rivals. Baleno competes against Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Volkswagen Polo. Here, we have a rendering of the upcoming Baleno. It has been done by Shubhajit Dixit and the images were shared on Facebook.

The artist has rendered only the front quarter and the rear quarter of the premium hatchback. He also rendered different colours. There is black, Beige, Blue and red. Maruti Suzuki will be offering the Baleno in Celestial Blue, Grandeur Silver, Splendid Silver, Opulent Red, Lux Beige and Pearl Arctic White. All the paint schemes are new except the Pearl Arctic White.

In the rendering, we can see a new set of headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, the grille has been updated and there is a new front bumper too. The headlamps are still using LED projectors which is a good thing. At the rear, there are split LED tail lamps and a reworked rear bumper.

It is important to note that these renderings are based only on the imagination of the artist. The production-spec 2022 Baleno will look slightly different. In fact, the production-spec images are already leaked. You can see them by clicking here.

Powertrain

The 2022 Baleno will be offered only with a 1.2-litre K12 N petrol engine which is a four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine. It produces 90 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. As standard, it would come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Maruti Suzuki will no longer offer the CVT automatic transmission. Instead, it will be replaced by a 5-speed AMT.

Many would think that is a downgrade. The manufacturer probably did this so that they can price the automatic variants competitively as compared to the rivals. This would attract people who are looking for an affordable premium hatchback with an automatic transmission. In the last few years, automatic transmissions have become quite popular because of the convenience that they offer in bumper to bumper traffic. Maruti Suzuki might also launch a CNG powered version of the Baleno for people who want to tackle the high prices of petrol.

Features

The 2022 Baleno will be a significant upgrade from the current Baleno in terms of features. It would come with a heads-up display which will display various information so that the driver does not have to take his eyes off the road. There will also be a 360-degree parking camera which will offer a top-down view of the hatchback and will make parking the premium hatchback much easier. Both of these features are first in the segment. We are also expecting Suzuki Connect connected car technology.

Variants

Maruti Suzuki will offer six variants of the Baleno. There will be Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Zeta (O), Alpha (O) and Alpha. The manual gearbox would be offered on all variants. The AMT gearbox would be reserved only for the Delta, Zeta, Zeta (O), Alpha (O) and Alpha variants.
