2022 Citroen C5 Aircross revealed globally

French manufacturer, Citroen has released a facelift of the C5 Aircross in the global market. The facelift comes with some major cosmetic changes, feature additions and mechanically it stays the same. We are expecting that the 2022 C5 Aircross will launch in India by the end of this year.

Citroen also increased the prices of the C5 recently by up to Rs. 98,000. So, now the price of the C5 Aircross starts at Rs. 32.23 lakhs ex-showroom for the Feel variant while the Shine variant is priced at Rs. 33.78 lakhs ex-showroom. C5 Aircross will continue to compete against Volkswagen Tiguan, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.

Mechanically, it will still come with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 177 PS of max power and 400 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Citroen claims a fuel efficiency figure of 18.6 kmpl.

Citroen has updated the exterior of the SUV. It no longer looks funky and cool SUV. It now looks butch, thanks to the new aggressive bumper and new LED Daytime Running Lamps that integrate with the strip that runs throughout the new grille. It no longer comes with a split headlamp design. There is a single headlamp unit that uses LED lamps. The fog lamps are now placed near the new skid plate.

On the sides, there are new 18-inch alloy wheels and the rest of the design stays the same mostly. The roof rails and the outside rearview mirrors are now finished in gloss black. Then to the rear, the tail lamp design is the same but the LED elements have been updated. It now also comes with a new Citroen badging that is finished in black colour and gets a thin chrome around it.

On the inside, there is new touchscreen infotainment that is now free-floating and measures 10-inches. Because the infotainment is larger, the air conditioning vents have been repositioned and now they sit below the infotainment system. The seats now also get heated and massaging function. Moreover, the chunky gear lever has been replaced with a slicker gear shifter. There is also a wireless charger and drive mode selector now.

Citroen also working on affordable C3

Citroen is also working on a new budget car which will be called C3. It is not a SUV but more like a rugged-looking hatchback. It will be competing against Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.

It is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine which should have a power output of 100 PS. It will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox and there would also be an automatic gearbox. It is expected to be a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The C3 will be a funky looking hatchback just like the C5 Aircross that is currently on sale in India. There would be funky coloured accents on the exterior and interior. The interior could be a bit under-equipped with manual air conditioning, fixed headrests etc.
