2022 Mahindra Scorpio: Clearest video of the upcoming SUV

After the all-new Thar and XUV700, Mahindra is working to bring the all-new Scorpio to the Indian market later this year. We have spotted the Scorpio testing on the public roads for a long time now. This is the clearest video of the upcoming Scorpio testing under camouflage.

The video by Lokesh Mehta shows the Mahindra Scorpio test mule trying off-roading track in the Ladakh region. The exact date and time of the video remain unknown but it seems to be shot a few weeks ago as the Ladakh roads are closed now due to heavy snowfall.

In the video, the Scorpio is treading slowly on the dirt track of a mountain. It is likely that Mahindra is testing the off-roading capabilities of the car at a high altitude. This also confirms that Mahindra will bring back the 4X4 set-up with the all-new Scorpio. It is missing from the current model after Mahindra removed the 4X4 variant due to the low sales. The side slope test will allow Mahindra to gauge how capable the Scorpio will turn out to be in real life.

Scorpio looks bigger than the current model

The all-new Scorpio spotted under the camouflage looks much bigger than the current model. This will allow Mahindra to position the all-new Scorpio above the present model. Mahindra is not discontinuing the current model of the car and it was caught testing on the roads with camouflage on the front-end.

However, Mahindra will restrict the number of features available with the all-new Scorpio to make sure that the all-new model does not interfere with the sales of XUV700, which is a hot product at the moment deliveries on fresh bookings are taking months.

The all-new Scorpio may miss out on the panoramic sunroof but will offer features like a TFT instrument cluster, a new infotainment system, an upmarket cabin and more.

Both petrol and diesel engines are available

Mahindra will offer both petrol and diesel engine options with the all-new Scorpio. The engine options will be similar to the Mahindra Thar. There will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Both the engine options will offer standard manual transmission and both of them will also offer an automatic transmission as well. Mahindra is yet to comment on the AWD or 4X4 option to be available with the Thar but it is highly likely that the all-new Scorpio will not offer these options.

The all-new Scorpio will also become much more luxurious and comfortable than before. Also, it will offer features like a sunroof, leather seats, electrically adjustable front seats, and more. The new Scorpio will be positioned a segment above the current version of the Scorpio, which means it will take on the likes of Tata Harrier directly.
