We’ve seen SUVs from the likes of Porsche, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Now, get ready for an SUV with the Prancing Horse badge.
Ferrari‘s first SUV, dubbed the Purosangue – Italian for pure-blooded or thoroughbred – has been leaked.
This is the first time we’ve seen the Purosangue properly thanks to Instagram user Wilcoblok, who uploaded two images of the vehicle.
This vehicle is most likely a pre-production model as Ferrari has already confirmed it’s going to start production of the Purosangue in 2022, with deliveries starting in 2023.
The crossover has sleek, curvaceous lines, and looks rather like a lifted version of the GTC4Lusso.
There are split headlights like the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SF90 hypercar, along with a large air intake mounted low on the front fascia.
If it wasn’t immediately clear this was a Ferrari, the presence of multiple Prancing Horse badges should clue you in.
Around the side there are large alloy wheels with gloss black wheel arch cladding, which is synonymous with SUVs, as well as flush door handles.
The vehicle’s side profile is very sculpted with sharp creases on the door panels, as well as prominent hips.
At the back there are four separate tail light units, like many current-generation Ferrari models such as the Roma grand tourer, and there are also quad exhaust outlets.
The rear of the Purosangue is heavily raked and sculpted with a number of air vents exiting at the back. There’s also a prominent rear diffuser.
The Purosangue was first confirmed in 2018 and will be built on a new front mid-engine architecture that supports 2-, 2+2, and 4-seat vehicles.
Ferrari says this architecture is optimised for weight distribution and for a low centre of gravity. The architecture also supports V12 engines.
The Prancing Horse is still tight-lipped but it’s expected power will come from either a V6 or V8, with available hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants.
Ferrari could use the PHEV powertrain from the 296 GTB which pairs a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine with an electric motor and a 7.5kWh battery pack. Total system output is 610kW of power.
The Italian automaker could also use the PHEV powertrain from the SF90 which pairs a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors and a 7.9kWh battery pack. Total system output is 735kW.
No matter which engine is used in the Purosangue, it’ll be mated to a dual-clutch transmission that’s located at the rear of the vehicle.
