Formula E, officially known as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, is a single-seater motorsport championship for electric cars which is hosted by the The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile and has become the worlds fastest growing sport and its viewership currently stands at more than 500 million.
Presently, the only Indian team in Formula E is Mahindra Racing which entered the Championship in the inaugural 2014-2015 season as one of the ten founding teams. After the announcement of Hyderabad signing the LoI for becoming a host of the electric motorsport race, the CEO of Mahindra Racing, Dilbagh Gill, expressed his glee by saying, “It has always been our burning desire to race in front of our fans and have a home race. We are now one big step closer to this dream. Formula E promotes electric mobility and renewable energy solutions, and it is the first global sport to be certified with a net-zero carbon footprint from inception. This would go a long way in creating a sustainable future. We are excited to be in Hyderabad.”
