Jeep India to launch three brand-new SUVs in India; Details inside

With the departures of Ford and General Motors from India, Jeep is now the only American carmaker in the Indian car market. While many are doubting the presence of Jeep in India as well, due to the limited product lineup, Jeep is all set to silence all of its critics with a fresh new lineup for India. Jeep is preparing not one or two but three new SUVs which will make their way in India in 2022 as reported by ACI. Here’s a detailed look at what Jeep has got to offer in 2022.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk

The hardcore 4×4 Trailhawk version of the Jeep Compass was available in the pre-facelifted version as its range-topping variant. However, the facelifted version of the Jeep Compass was launched without this version. After a year of the launch of facelifted Jeep Compass, its variant lineup will get back the Trailhawk variant. And like before, it will serve as the flagship variant of Jeep Compass.

Similar to its pre-facelift version, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk will come to claim better approach and departure angles, thanks to higher ground clearance and different front and rear bumpers. It will have blacked out highlights for the bumpers, grille, roof, rearview mirrors and pillars. Also exclusive to the Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be different 18-inch alloy wheels with bigger tyres and a more hardcore four-wheel-drive system with additional drive modes.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be offered solely with the combination of a 2.0-litre 170 PS diesel engine and 9-speed automatic gearbox and will be based on the current top-spec S variant in terms of features. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is expected to hit the showroom floors by February 2022 and will be produced in limited numbers compared to other variants.

Jeep Meridian

The Jeep Meridian is the renamed version of the Jeep Commander, which has already been launched in some global markets but will get a different name in India to avoid trademark conflicts with Mahindra. Essentially a seven-seater version of the Jeep Compass, the Jeep Meridian will feature substantially different front and rear profiles and a longer wheelbase to accommodate the additional third row at the back.

Coming to the cabin of the Jeep Meridian, while the overall layout will be shared with that of the Compass, the former will get a couple of additional features and different shades for the upholstery to make it feel like a different place to be in.

The Jeep Meridian will share its 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with the Compass. However, given the additional weight, it will be having over the Compass, the Meridian’s engine will be tuned for a higher power output of nearly 200 PS. The Jeep Meridian will be offered solely with the 9-speed automatic gearbox, with the option of four-wheel drive to be made available in higher variants. The Jeep Meridian is expected to arrive in India towards the end of June or July 2022.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep entered into the Indian car market with the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, with the former being the flagship model from Jeep here in India, just like in other parts of the world. The Grand Cherokee underwent a generation change in 2021, which is all set to come to India before the festive season.

However, there’s a catch this time – unlike the previous model which was brought to India through the CBU route, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee will be locally assembled in India, just like the Wrangler. The Grand Cherokee is currently offered in 5-seater and 7-seater long-wheelbase versions, though the Indian market is expected to get the former only.

Designed on the lines of Jeep Grand Wagoneer, the new Jeep Grand Cherokees has an evolutionary exterior design and a much more futuristic-looking cabin compared to those of the previous model. The biggest highlight of the cabin of this new SUV is the presence of three different screens – one for the instrument console, one for the central infotainment system and one additional screen for the co-passenger side.

In other global markets, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has already been launched with a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. While it is not clear which powertrain will make its way for the Indian car market, the strongest contender among all of them is the 3.6-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine, which pumps out 290 bhp of power. Thanks to its local assembly, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be much more affordable than before, with the new prices indicated to be in the range of Rs. 70-80 lakh.
