Mahindra first launched the XUV300 in 2019 and since then it has not received any substantial upgrade. According to Autocar India, the homegrown manufacturer will finally be releasing the facelift of the XUV300 in the first quarter of 2023. With the facelift, there would be mechanical as well as cosmetic changes to the compact SUV.
First of all, the XUV300 would come with a new turbo petrol engine. Yes, the current one is also turbocharged but the new one belongs to the mStallion range of engines that Mahindra showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. The engine produces 130 hp of max power and 230 Nm of peak torque. That is an increase of 20 hp and 30 Nm over the current petrol engine.
The current 1.2-litre turbocharged engine produces 110 PS of max power and 200 Nm of peak torque. This engine is derived from KUV100’s engine. It is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed AMT. As of now, the XUV300 is already the segment in terms of torque output. However, with the new petrol engine, the XUV300 will become the most powerful compact SUV too.
The new mStallion engine will have a displacement of 1.2-litre and will feature direct injection too. Moreover, the cylinder heads are integrated with the exhaust manifolds which helps in increasing the performance and efficiency of the engine. Also, the engine is designed to meet the upcoming CAFE emission norms. So, Mahindra would not need to use the Gasoline Particulate Filter.
We do not expect Mahindra to discontinue the current 1.2 turbo petrol engine. It would still be on offer on the lower variants of the XUV300 whereas the higher variants could get the mStallion motor. At Auto Expo 2020, Mahindra showcased the XUV300 Sportz which could finally launch next year. It came with red brake calipers, decals and a sporty theme was given to the cabin.
The XUV300 is also offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. It produces 117 PS of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed AMT.
The facelift means that the headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lamps and the front and rear bumpers would be redesigned. There could also be a set of new LED tail lamps. Moreover, this time there could be an all-LED headlamp setup and there will be the new Mahindra’s logo. However, it is the interior that is in more need of a refresh. This is because the interior design of the XUV300 feels a bit dated.
The current infotainment system is quite dated so Mahindra would be using a new infotainment system. It could be powered by the AdrenoX that we have seen on the XUV700. The resolution should be higher with newly updated graphics. The system would also run smoother and will come with more features. There would also be Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on offer.
With the facelift, the prices of XUV300 could go slightly up. It will continue to compete against the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser and Tata Nexon.
