Bigger is always better in the world of Monster Trucks – this is your chance to experience them in action!
The 2022 Monster Truck Mania Australian tour is underway, so we sent Photographer Ted to the first round in Melbourne last weekend…
Monster trucks, Freestyle Motocross, Mini Monster Trucks, a Rocket Car, and a Tank called Frank – what better way to spend a weekend?
Normally a few crashes, roll-overs, and excessive damage would put a damper on most crowds’ enthusiasm for an automotive event, but last weekend (April 2 and 3) saw the return of Monster Truck Mania to Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena.
Here, crashes, flips, and fires are all part of the show.
Making its long-awaited return after two years of cancellations and delays, the spectacle hosted the largest indoor audience to ever experience a Monster Truck event held in Australia.
Highlights naturally included massive jumps all in categories (Freestyle Motocross included a 23-metre gap), but an over-committed front wheelie from the Tropical Thunder Monster Truck, resulting in a roll-over and subsequent fire, was pretty hard to beat.
While the crowd was impressed, the damage resulted in crushed body panels and a late-night finish for the mechanics to get the machine up and running for the second show on Sunday.
The Freestyle Kings showing a wild display of motocross, crossing a 23m gap with array of flips, whips, and even a triple tandem backflip.
Laser displays, flamethrowers, a triple tandem motocross backflip, and a tracked buggy called Frank the Tank all rounded out the family-friendly fun.

The show will come to Sydney on May 21 and 22, and is headed to Brisbane on July 18 and 19.
