Ram 1500 TRX given $US275,000 6×6 monster truck treatment

Ram’s mammoth 1500 TRX pick-up isn’t enough for some buyers – so US company Apocalypse Manufacturing has converted one into a 594kW ‘Warlord’ 6×6 monster.

US company Apocalypse Manufacturing specialises in custom vehicles which seem purpose built for exactly what the firm’s name suggests, an apocalypse – and its latest vehicle is based on the supercharged V8-powered Ram 1500 TRX pick-up.

The Ram 1500 TRX is no slouch in its own right – the fastest production truck ever – thanks to a 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8, developing 527kW (702hp) and capable of a 0-60mph (97km/h) sprint in 4.5 seconds.

But Apocalypse Manufacturing has taken it one step further with the reveal of the Warlord – a heavily-modified TRX, equipped with another axle for full-time, six-wheel drive.

Powering the wheels is a tuned version of the TRX’s already-formidable supercharged 6.2-litre Hemi V8 engine, now developing 594kW (797hp) – equivalent to six petrol-electric hybrid Toyota Corolla hatchbacks.

Measuring 6.7 metres long, 2.4 metres wide and 2.4 metres high, the Warlord rolls on 37-inch (940mm) Mickey Thompson tyres, with a full-size spare mounted in a custom cage.

High-output KC LED spotlights ensure you can find your way through the post-apocalyptic fog, while powered side steps are on offer so most regular humans can actually climb up into it.

Under the skin, a patented tandem axle is used to operate the six-wheel-drive system, joining six 20-inch one-piece alloy wheels, a custom suspension system (with six active and electric Bilstein shock absorbers), a locking rear axle, and four off-road traction modes.

The interior is carried over from the standard Ram TRX, with two-tone black/red suede and leather trim, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth connectivity, satellite navigation, electric windows and power seats.

The first example of this custom beast crossed the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction last month, where it sold in a no-reserve auction for $US275,000 ($AU386,000) – or nearly four times the price of a standard four-wheel-drive Ram 1500 TRX.

“At just under 800 horsepower, the Warlord is a six-wheel-drive super truck that leads the pack,” said Joseph Ghattas, owner, engineer and head designer of Apocalypse Manufacturing, prior to the Warlord’s sale at the Barrett-Jackson auction.

“Having this truck represent our company at the world’s premier auto auction is a huge way to open up the year.”
