Tata Nexon EV long-range closer to launch: Spotted testing [Video]

The wait for the long-range version of the Tata Nexon EV might seem to end soon. A near-production version of the long-range Nexon EV was spotted doing test runs in the outskirts of Pune, where the manufacturing plant of Tata Motors is located.

Though the test mule was heavily camouflaged, it indicates that it is the final version of the vehicle in the video by Ramaswamy. It was the presence of the blue-coloured surrounds for the rear reflectors on the rear bumper, which confirmed that the mule was the electric version of the Tata Nexon.

The most talked-about change in the new long-range version of the Tata Nexon EV is the new 40 kWh lithium-ion battery in place of the current 30.2 kWh battery. The bigger battery will naturally offer a longer driving range limit. It is expected to be much more than the ARAI-claimed range of 312 km of the current model, which is around 220-240 km in real-world driving conditions. The long-range version might return 300-320 km of range in the real world, suggesting that the ARAI-claimed range might hit the 400 km mark.

Tata Nexon EV long range

The long-range Tata Nexon is in the works for a long time, and the latest spotting of the test mule suggests that the launch of the model is just around the corner. Visually speaking, despite the heavy camouflage over the spied test mule, the new long-range Tata Nexon EV will not have visual differences over the currently available version.

It will still retain the styling of the current Tata Nexon, with all the blue-coloured highlights on the front grille, front fog lamp surrounds, rear reflector surrounds, boot lid applique and shoulder-line on the side profile. It might come with a new design for the 16-inch machined alloy wheels.

The cabin of the new long-range Tata Nexon EV will also see no changes. Here, the instrument console and AC vents surround and lower centre console will come with blue highlights. The 7-inch TFT screen in the instrument console, dual-tone black and beige upholstery, rounded transmission knob, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof and automatic climate control of the current model will be retained in the new long-range version as well.

As reported earlier, the new long-range version will be positioned above the XZ Lux variant of the current model and will be sold alongside the latter. We expect the new long-range Tata Nexon EV to be priced in the range of Rs 17-19 lakh.
