Toyota has revealed all the required details of the India-spec version of the Hilux, ahead of its launch in India on January 20th. As expected, the eighth-generation Toyota Hilux coming to India is much similar to the global version and will be a diesel-only model. The prices, however, are expected to be revealed on January 20th. Here are all the confirmed details of the upcoming Toyota Hilux.
Variants and colour options
The Toyota Hilux will come in two variants – Low and High, both of which will come with a manual gearbox with the diesel engine as standard. The High variant will also be offered with an optional automatic transmission. While the Low variant will be offered in Super White and Grey colour options, the High variant will have four colour options on offer – Pearl White, Grey, Silver and Emotional Red.
The Toyota Hilux will be offered only in the double-cab body style in India, which has a length of 5325mm, a width of 1855mm, a height of 1815mm and a wheelbase of 3085mm. At the front, the Hilux gets a huge piano-black grille with heavy chrome surrounds. The L-shaped fog lamp surrounds on the front bumper are also finished in gloss black, while the outside rearview mirrors, window waistline, door handles and rear bumper corners are finished in chrome. The chrome highlights are further visible in the 18-inch alloy wheels as well. The Hilux also gets bi-beam LED projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs and LED inserts in the vertical tail lamps.
Interior and features
On the inside, the Toyota Hilux will come with an all-black cabin, which gets a three-spoke tilt-and-telescopic multi-functional steering wheel shared with the Fortuner. It also gets a TFT MID in the instrument console, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, reversing camera, leather upholstery, push start-stop button, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, powered driver’s seat, upper cooled glovebox and heat rejection windows.
The Toyota Hilux will also come heavily equipped with state-of-the-art features like active traction control, vehicle stability control, hill assist control, downhill assist control, drive start control, trailer sway control, limited-slip differential, tyre angle monitor and automatic differential lock. It also gets seven airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.
Engine and transmission
The Toyota Hilux will share its 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with the Fortuner, with which it also shares its IMV platform. It is the only engine option that will be offered for the Hilux and will get the transmission options of 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. The maximum power output of this engine is 204 PS. However, while the manual variant pumps out a torque output of 420 Nm, the same for the automatic variant is 500 Nm.
