Volkswagen Virtus mid-spec variant spotted before official launch [Video]

Volkswagen India recently unveiled their all-new sedan Virtus for Indian market. The upcoming Virtus is actually the second product under Volkswagen’s India 2.0 Strategy. The first product was the Taigun compact SUV. Volkswagen has revealed most of the details about the upcoming Virtus except for the price and the variants. Volkswagen Virtus is based on the same platform as Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq SUV. The launch of Virtus is expected to happen in coming months as the production and pre-booking have started. Most of the videos available online are of the top-end variant of Virtus but, here we have a video a mid-spec variant of the upcoming Virtus sedan was spotted on the road.

The video has been uploaded by The Fat Biker on his YouTube channel. The video shows a Volkswagen Virtus sedan on a highway. The car was bearing a temporary number plate and it looked different from the one that was showcased to us so far. It is a mid-spec variant which comes with limited number of features. In comparison to the higher or top-end variant, the Volkswagen Virtus mid variant gets different looking headlamps. They are still LED units but, internally, the design looks slightly different.

The Other noticeable difference in this car was that it is a Left Hand Drive version. Volkswagen will be manufacturing the Virtus sedan for export market as well and the one seen here in the video is probably the variant meant for international markets. A Left Hand Driver sticker is clearly visible at the front and rear of the car. It also gets a dual tone alloy wheel which is probably going to be offered in the international variant.

The mid-spec variant meant for Indian market is likely to be get a silver coloured single tone alloy wheel just like what we’ve seen in Volkswagen Taigun. Both Indian and the export version of the Virtus sedan look the same. There would only be minor changes in them. The top-end model offers features like projector LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, dual tone alloy wheels, LED tail lamps and so on.

Moving in, Volkswagen offers a premium looking cabin. It comes with features like leather upholstery, ventilated seats, automatic climate control, electric sunroof, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, push-button start, fully digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone charger, cooled glove box and so on. Volkswagen will also be offering safety features like stability control, hill-hold, tyre deflation warning, electronic differential lock, multi-collision braking and even six airbags with the top-end variants.

Volkswagen Virtus will be offered with two engine options. There will be a 1.0 litre TSI (turbo petrol) and a 1.5 litre TSI (turbo petrol) engine. The 1.0 litre TSI generates 115 Ps and 178 Nm of peak torque. This engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine is offered with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG transmission. Volkswagen Virtus will replace Vento and will compete with cars like Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz in the segment.
